FPA WESTWOOD ELEMENTARY

WELCOME TO WESTWOOD

Located in the heart of the Westwood community of Southwest Memphis, FPA Westwood Elementary School serves over 600 students in grades Pre-K through 5th grade.

With a dedicated staff of teachers and leaders, Freedom Prep provides the foundation needed for students to thrive in middle and high school, on their way to college acceptance.

We offer strong reading, math, science, and social studies instruction, as well as many fun and engaging electives like physical education (PE), nutrition, and music.

TYPICAL DAY

• 7:30am: Breakfast

• 7:56am: Attendance Taken

• 8am: Morning Meeting

• 8:20am: Story Time

• 9am: Small Group Reading Rotations (read with the lead teacher, then read with the co-teacher, then play academic games on the iPad)

• 10:30am: Writing Lesson

• 11am: Lunch Time

• 11:30am: Playground Time

• 12pm: Special Classes (Physical Education, Music, or Art)

• 1pm: Math Lesson

• 1:30pm: Small Group Math Rotations (math with the lead teacher then play math games on the iPad or small group math centers)

• 2:15pm: Science and Social Studies

• 3:05pm: Pack-up to go home!

FREEDOM LESSONS

A hallmark of the Freedom Prep program is exposure to the arts, history, culture, and colleges in Memphis, the state of Tennessee, the mid-South, and around the United States.

Each quarter, our students will engage in a Freedom Lesson. While these may be called "field trips" at other schools, these off campus events are educationally-focused, empowering, and rooted in our students maximizing their learning opportunities.
