At Freedom Prep Academy, every great educator has the power to transform hundreds of students’ lives. Danielle Douglas, one of our passionate Talent Recruiters, is one of the individuals behind connecting exceptional educators with our mission – to prepare all students in grades Pre-K through 12th to excel in college and in life.
Danielle’s journey into recruitment began with a love for literacy and education, sparked at the breakfast table with her parents in Norfolk, VA. “Both of my parents emphasized working on my phonics from an early age. I remember sitting at the table with my dad, going through flashcards, and then running into the next room to review them with my mom,” she reflects. This early focus on reading shaped her lifelong love of learning. And ultimately, her career in supporting future teachers.
After moving to Memphis, Danielle started as a counselor at Youth Villages, later stepping into recruitment roles that allowed her to connect talented individuals with meaningful opportunities. She found her calling in education recruitment: “Every great teacher or leader we hire impacts hundreds of students, and that ripple effect really drives me. I’m passionate about finding educators who believe in excellence, equity, and helping every student succeed.”
Danielle describes a “good day” as one filled with a mix of strategy and connection. From sourcing candidates at career fairs to hosting school tours and analyzing talent pipelines, her work is never the same day twice. What energizes her most? “Seeing teachers go all out in the classroom and knowing they’re part of an environment where students thrive—it’s exactly the kind of energy I want for my own future children.” A great teacher at Freedom Prep is passionate, creative, dedicated, compassionate, and inspiring, guiding students to excel academically and grow as confident, curious learners.
When asked what makes a great recruiter, Danielle doesn’t hesitate: “It’s about listening as much as talking. Understanding a candidate’s goals and matching them with the right culture is key. In education, that means setting them up to grow and succeed alongside the students they teach.”
Outside of the office, Danielle’s joy extends to her lovable bulldog, Melvin, and her hobbies like making natural soaps, body butters, and exploring new parks around Memphis. Colleagues describe her as joyful, caring, and witty—qualities that shine through in her professional and personal life.
Danielle’s advice to future candidates is simple: be curious, show your passion for students, and align your skills with our mission. “Recruitment at Freedom Prep isn’t just about filling roles—it’s about connecting the right people to opportunities that truly make an impact on students and the community.”
