This past Saturday, June 13, the grounds of Freedom Prep Flagship Middle Campus filled up with exactly what a school community runs on — food, laughter, familiar faces, and brand new ones.
Family Day welcomed new and returning families for an afternoon of games, good conversation, and a chance to meet the teachers and staff who will shape this coming school year. For many, it was also a first look at Freedom Prep Flagship Middle School’s new Head of School, Dr. Maurice Guest, Jr. “Community is so important. It’s one of our core values, and it’s essential for us all to come together,” said Dr. Guest.
It definitely showed. Parents chatted with teachers, and FPA regional and national staff. Students reconnected with friends. Head of School, Dr. Guest, and Assistant Head of School, Mrs. McCall, mingled with families and shared their joy for the upcoming school year. And somewhere in the mix, you could feel the quiet excitement of a school year just on the horizon.
FPA returning student, Trinity B., felt it too. The incoming sixth grader is making the move from FPA Millbranch, and she arrived at Family Day with a clear sense of what she’s looking forward to most. “I’m excited about meeting my middle school teachers and learning. I’ve always loved math and am excited about going to FPA 6th grade to learn new math skills,” she said.
That love of math? Trinity traces it straight back to her elementary teachers at FPA, who made the content genuinely fun. Now she’s ready to see what her new math teachers bring to the table. Trinity’s excitement is exactly what events like Family Day are designed to spark.
Natasha Smith, Managing Director of Teaching & Learning, put it simply. “Family Day is important because it reminds our students, families, and staff that we are stronger together. As we unify our schools, events like this help build relationships, create a shared sense of belonging, and reinforce that we are one community with one mission — ensuring every child excels.”
That mission threads through everything Freedom Prep does, and it was easy to see on Saturday. Our new FPA families finding their footing. Veteran families welcoming them in. Students like Trinity stepping into a new chapter with curiosity and confidence.
As the new school year draws closer, Flagship Middle School heads into it with something organic, a community that genuinely shows up for one another. Strong schools are built on strong relationships. On June 13th, those relationships were very much in the room. One community. One mission. And we are just getting started.
