Join The Movement to Transform Education in the South
The Freedom Prep Teacher Residency Program is a prestigious, paid program designed for recent college graduates and career changers entering the field of education. Through our partnership with Relay Graduate School of Education, Residents will work toward a TN Teaching License and a Master of Arts in Teaching.
Freedom Prep will pay for the cost of the Masters with a four year commitment. Residents spend the first year of the program paired with a mentor teacher while also serving in the critical role as interventionist at their school site.

Freedom Prep recruits mission-aligned resident candidates from across the United States. All candidates go through an interview process and must have a 2.50 GPA or higher, as required by Relay Graduate School of Education and the state of Tennessee educator licensure law.
Phase Two - Orientation (July): Freedom Prep Teacher Residents attend a four week orientation to instruction in Memphis to ramp up for their residency year. You'll learn pedagogy, content, and connect with your mentor teacher.
Phase Three - Residency Year (August - May): You'll serve as a resident for a full school year in a classroom with a lead, licensed instructor. You'll also have the support of your residency advisor (RA) and our Residency Director. You'll participate in weekly development, pursue your license, and complete your master's courses.
Phase Four - Transition to Teaching (June): If you successfully complete the residency, you'll be eligible to interview for lead teacher and co-teacher roles at FPA. You'll have the option to practice as a teacher during Freedom Prep's annual summer school.
